The fruit and pottery, set up with a light source, gives artists the opportunity to "see" vivid color, strong darks and lights, the shadow of the objects, and the cast shadows.

By drawing the foundational pieces of shape and form and striving to "see" the pieces of color, value and temperature, artists begin to create the notes that become the harmony and melody of Art of Painting.

Artists can take much time to paint the still life, the light will remain constant. The objects being painted do not move or change form.

Once the still life is honored and studied, one learns to "see" the pieces and their relationship and then - rather than following a simple formula or a rule - anything can be "seen," understood and painted.
